HolzWald Bear small walking

It is carved mid-stride on all four legs, a walking bear rather than a sitting one. That low, moving stance gives it a sturdy, roaming look and makes it read as a bear on patrol through a forest scene rather than resting.

It is 9.6cm long, 6cm tall and 2.5cm wide. The four-legged pose spreads its weight, so this small bear stands solidly and is easy for a child to push along an imagined trail across the floor or a table.

Each of these carved wooden animals is shaped from a single block of local wood, not moulded. Hand-carving leaves visible grain and slight variations, and the solid, one-piece build with no small parts stands up to daily handling and rough-and-tumble play.

The walking bear fits forest and woodland scenes, lumbering past HolzWald trees, foxes and rabbits. As an open-ended piece it can be a gentle friend or a wild animal to track, letting children build their own woodland adventures around it.

It is coloured with natural Biofa dyes and polished with a quality oil for a soft, matte surface. The edges are rounded and sanded through several steps, so the bear feels smooth and warm rather than sharp or glossy in the hand.

Wipe the bear with a dry cloth, or a barely damp one for marks, then dry it promptly. Keep it away from soaking and dishwashers, and store it out of long direct sun so the dyed, oiled finish keeps its depth.

It is handmade in a small workshop in Georgia that has crafted wooden animals since 1997. The workshop hires from its local community, including people with disabilities, and shapes each bear by hand so no two are exactly alike.
