HolzWald Farm Wife

She is a standing farm character carved to lead barnyard play, the person who tends the animals in a HolzWald farm scene. At 15.4cm tall she is one of the taller figures in the range, giving her clear presence beside the smaller sheep, geese and other creatures.

The Farm Wife stands 15.4cm high, 6.1cm across the base and 2.5cm deep. Her wide, flat footing lets her stand unaided on a table or shelf, and the tall upright shape makes her easy for a child to spot and pick up as the story's caretaker.

She is the human anchor for the wooden toy animals in the HolzWald farm range, herding the sheep, feeding geese, or overseeing a block-built barnyard. As an open-ended figure she has no fixed task, so children decide what work she does each day.

She is painted with natural Biofa dyes and polished with oil, so the colour settles into the grain rather than sitting on a glossy coat. Her edges are rounded through several sanding stages, leaving a smooth, warm surface that holds up to plenty of handling.

She is handcrafted in a small Georgian workshop that has carved wooden figures since 1997 and employs people from the local community, including workers with disabilities. Each Farm Wife is finished by hand, so slight differences in grain and dye make every one a little different.
