HolzWald - Goose head up

The goose is carved standing tall with its head held up and its neck stretched, giving it an alert barnyard pose. That upright stance also helps it balance on its own feet, so it stands steady on a shelf, windowsill or play mat without leaning against anything.

These wooden figurines are handmade in a small Georgian workshop that has carved wooden pieces since 1997, over 35 years. Each goose is shaped, rounded and finished by hand, so the grain and small tool marks differ slightly from one bird to the next.

The goose fits a farmyard or pond-side story alongside other HolzWald farm figures and people. Children can march it across an imagined field, tuck it beside a barn, or set it among the family figures for open-ended, Waldorf-style play built from their own ideas.

It is painted with natural Biofa dyes and then polished with a quality oil, which gives a soft, low-sheen surface. The edges are rounded and sanded through several steps, so the bird feels smooth and warm to hold rather than sharp or glossy.

Wipe the goose with a dry or barely damp cloth when it needs cleaning. Keep it out of water, and never put it in a dishwasher or leave it soaking. Keeping it away from long hours of direct sun helps the natural colours stay rich over time.
