HolzWald Lion female

The female lion, or lioness, is carved without a mane, giving her a sleek head and a taller, more upright posture. At 12.3cm she stands notably higher than the small male lion. Together the pair form a natural pride, letting children tell family and hunting stories on the savanna.

She stands 12.3cm tall, 8.4cm long and 2.5cm wide, so she is one of the taller figures in this batch. The upright build sits on a broad base that keeps her stable, and the height gives her a poised, watchful presence beside the shorter animals in the range.

Each lioness is carved from a single block of local wood, so she has a warmth and weight that hollow plastic lacks. The edges are rounded over through several sanding stages and sealed with oil, giving a smooth surface. Being solid, there are no seams or small parts to break.

As a savanna hunter she leads scenes with the male lion, elephants and other grassland animals. Children build long grass from cloth and blocks and cast her as the pride's provider. Her upright stance suits a lookout or stalking role in the story.

Yes. Because every figure is carved and dyed by hand, the grain pattern and tone vary from one lioness to the next. Those small differences are part of a handmade object, so the piece you receive is a little distinct rather than an identical copy from a mould.

Wipe her with a dry or lightly damp cloth and let her air dry. Keep her out of water and dishwashers, and store her away from long direct sunlight so the colour stays even. Because she is tall, stand her where she will not be easily knocked.

She is made in a small Georgian workshop with more than 35 years of woodworking experience. The workshop employs people from the local community, including workers with disabilities, and shapes every lioness by hand from local wood, coloured with natural Biofa dyes and oil-polished.
