Holzwald Wolf

Yes, the Wolf is carved standing four-square with its head level and tail low, the watchful posture of a wolf on the prowl. At 12cm long and 6.6cm tall it has a lean, elongated body that sits steadily on a shelf or floor.

The Wolf measures 6.6cm in height, 12cm in length and 2.2cm in width. The long body and flat base give it a firm stance, and the size fills a child's hand comfortably while staying light enough to move quickly through a story.

The Wolf suits forest, mountain and winter scenes, stalking through block trees, leading a pack, or facing off with the Sheep and other HolzWald animals. As an open-ended figure it can be the villain, the hero or a lone traveller, whichever the child decides.

Its edges are rounded through several sanding stages, then it is coloured with natural Biofa dyes and polished with oil. That gives a warm, matte surface without a glossy coat, so the lean body feels pleasant to hold through long play.

Yes. It is cut from one piece of local wood with no separate legs, tail or small parts to detach. That makes it robust for daily handling, and the whole figure is picked up and set down as one continuous piece.

Wipe it with a dry or lightly damp cloth and dry it at once. Keep it away from water and dishwashers, and store it out of long direct sunlight so the natural dye colours stay deep. An occasional light oiling keeps the timber looking healthy.

It is handmade in a small workshop in Georgia that has carved wooden animals since 1997 and employs people from the local community, including workers with disabilities. Each Wolf is hand-finished, so the grain and colour vary a little between pieces.
