Beck Traffic Give Way Sign

The Give Way Sign shows young drivers to slow down and let other cars pass before joining a road. In small world play it introduces the idea of yielding and taking turns, so children learn that traffic follows an order rather than every vehicle moving at once.

The sign stands 100mm in height and is made from maple wood. Its solid base lets it stand upright on a flat floor or wooden road, so it holds its place while children push cars past it during pretend traffic scenes.

It sits alongside the rest of the Beck range. Set it near the Beck Traffic Light with Pedestrian Signal so cars slow at the junction, then add the freeway sign to mark the busy road the give way rule applies to. Building a small set of signs makes each rule clearer.

The recommended age is 3 and over. It is not suitable for children under 36 months because small parts are a choking hazard, so keep it for older preschoolers who are ready to arrange the pieces and act out road scenes on their own.

A give way sign marks the moments where two roads meet and one has to wait. Adding it to a play road gives children a reason to pause a car, look for others and decide who goes first, which turns simple pushing into a story about sharing the road.

Wipe the maple wood with a dry or barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Keep it out of water and away from long spells in direct sun so the wood and the printing stay in good shape between play sessions.
