HolzWald Snake

The Snake stretches 12.7cm in length while sitting just 3.1cm tall and 1.5cm wide. That long, low profile is the whole character of the piece, carved with a gentle S-curve so it looks like a snake slithering across the ground rather than a stiff stick.

It winds in a smooth S-curve with a raised head at one end and a tapering tail at the other. The slim, flowing body sits low and stable, and the single continuous line of the carving gives it real movement even though it is one solid piece.

The Snake fits jungle, desert and grassland scenes, weaving between block rocks, coiling around a tree a child builds, or surprising the other HolzWald animals in a story. As an open-ended figure it takes whatever role the child imagines, from garden visitor to jungle predator.

Yes. Although narrow, it is carved from one solid piece of local wood with rounded, sanded edges, so it holds up to regular play. The low, curved shape rests flat without rolling, and there are no thin add-ons or joints that could snap off.

It is painted with natural Biofa dyes and polished with oil, so the colour soaks into the grain and the surface stays soft and matte. The rounded edges from several sanding passes make the long body smooth to run through a hand.

Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth and dry it right away. Keep it out of water and the dishwasher, and store it away from long spells of direct sun to protect the natural dye. Because it is slim, lay it flat so it does not get knocked.

It is handcrafted in a small Georgian workshop that has carved wooden figures since 1997. Every Snake is finished by hand, so slight differences in grain and dye mean the curve and colour of each one are a little different from the next.
