Grimm’s Building Boards - Natural

The Grimm's Building Boards are a set of flat wooden boards in different lengths that complement the larger Grimm's pieces and semicircles. They open up a wide choice of building and construction play, as well as balancing and skill games. As a versatile open ended component, they extend building with other Grimm's sets and blocks.

The boards are made from lime wood and finished with a non toxic water based colour stain. Because they are natural wood, the grain and colour vary slightly between boards, so each one looks a little different. These variations are a normal feature of the material rather than signs of a fault.

Each board is about 7 cm wide and 0.8 cm thick, with lengths ranging from 10 cm up to 37 cm. The mix of lengths lets children combine and balance the boards in many ways, building level surfaces, ramps and structures alongside other Grimm's blocks and semicircles.

Grimm's give age guidance covering toddlers from 1 to 3 years and preschoolers from 3 to 6 years. Younger children stack and balance the boards in simple ways, while older ones attempt more complex constructions and skill games. Supervise younger children during play as needed.

The boards are open ended, so play has no fixed outcome. Children lay them flat, lean them into ramps, balance them across other pieces and combine them into larger structures. They pair especially well with the larger Grimm's pieces and semicircles, opening up construction, balancing and skill games.
