VIVAIO Number Blocks 1-10

This is a set of 10 wooden blocks, each one shaped as one of the numerals 1 to 10. The blocks are made of wood, so children can pick up, stack and rearrange them again and again during counting games and open building play.

The sizes follow the numbers. The 2 is twice as tall as the 1, and the 4 is twice as tall as the 2. The 10 stands as tall as 2 plus 8, or 4 plus 6, so the height of each block shows its value.

By combining and stacking the blocks in different ways, children practise addition, subtraction, number identification and number combinations. Because each numeral has a set height, they can test whether two shorter numbers really add up to a taller one.

Children enjoy stacking and manipulating the blocks to test their own theories. They might line the numerals up in order, match two blocks against a third, or build small towers, turning abstract number ideas into something they can hold and compare.
