GAM Set Of Knobless Cylinders

The Knobless Cylinders are the final stage of the dimensional material. After a child has worked through the earlier cylinder blocks, they discriminate size by sight alone and place each set in the correct order, without knobs to guide them.

Each set contains 10 cylinders held in its own beechwood box. The lid of every box is painted the same colour as the cylinders it stores, so a child can match a set to its container and keep the material organised.

Because the cylinders have no knobs, the child grades them purely by visual discrimination. They arrange each coloured set from smallest to largest, building on skills first met in the knobbed cylinder blocks and refining judgement of height, width and diameter.

The graded cylinder blocks introduce visual discrimination of size first. You can see that earlier stage in the /products/gam-0-3-cylinder-block-1 set, where control of error comes from the wooden frame. The Knobless Cylinders remove that built-in control and rely on the eye.

Yes. It is an authentic Montessori material made by GAM (Gonzagarredi), the classic classroom producer. The beechwood boxes and graded cylinders follow the traditional presentation used in Montessori sensorial work.

Wipe the wooden boxes and cylinders with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth and let them air. Keep the material out of standing water and away from long spells of direct sun so the painted lids and beechwood keep their finish.
