Grimm’s Pebbles River

The River set contains 4 smooth wooden pebbles in shades of blue, a newer addition to the Grimm's pebble family. Each piece is an organically shaped, rounded stone form that appeals to the eye and the hand, adding a fresh splash of colour to open ended floor play.

Building, stacking and finding the right balance with these round stone shapes is both challenging and fun. Children can enrich small worlds of their own, add the pebbles to a river made from a silk scarf, form a cave, lay out a stony landscape or balance them into a cairn.

The listed age group is 1 year and up. Younger toddlers enjoy holding and moving the smooth pebbles, while older children use them for deliberate balancing and small world scenes. As with any small parts, supervise very young children during play.

Each pebble is made from lime wood and coloured with a non-toxic water based colour stain. Because the wood is natural and hand finished, the grain and colour vary between pieces, so every pebble looks slightly different rather than uniform.

The pebbles measure about 2.5cm in height, with lengths ranging from 6cm to 12cm across the set. This range of sizes makes them satisfying to grasp and helps with balancing games, where working out the right stacking order is part of the fun.

Wipe the pebbles with a dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid soaking them, as water can affect the wood and stain. Store them in a dry spot away from direct heat and sun so the natural blue colours and finish stay in good condition.
