GAM Multiplication Bead Bar Layout Box

The material introduces the child to the multiplication tables from 1x1 through 10x10. Laying out bead bars for each factor and its product, the child builds every table concretely and sees multiplication as repeated groups of equal quantity rather than a fact to memorise.

The box contains one hundred sets of bead bars numbered 1 to 10. That quantity lets the child lay out any table in full, setting down the rows for each multiplier and reading off the product bar by bar.

The child chooses the bead bar for the number being multiplied and repeats it as many times as the multiplier calls for. Reading along the rows gives the product, and working table by table from 1x1 to 10x10 turns each multiplication fact into a picture the child has made.

The layout work links multiplication to real quantity, so the child understands what a product means before relying on memory. Counting, arranging and checking the bars also build order, concentration and a firm base for later abstract multiplication.

It works in both. The single box keeps the full set of bead bars together, so a home or classroom following Montessori math can store it on an open shelf and bring out the complete material whenever the child is ready to build a table.

Return each bead bar to its place in the box after the work so the sets stay complete and easy to count out next time. Keep the wooden box on a low shelf and wipe it with a dry cloth to keep the material tidy.

The layout box is a lower elementary math work, taken up once the child knows the bead bars and has met multiplication through earlier exercises. It suits the stage where the child is ready to build the tables in full and move toward recalling them.
