Bauspiel Grid Natural with tray (12 Blocks Set)

The set contains 12 grid blocks made from natural, uncoloured wood, each a large 17.5cm wide, 17.5cm high and 2.5cm thick. The open lattice shape means light and small pieces can pass through the squares. A base tray of 37 x 37 x 7cm holds the set together for storage and layout.

As building blocks toys wooden through and through, the grids bring a large, architectural element to a collection that plastic panels rarely match. The natural timber feels warm and sturdy, and the open squares create windows, fences and frames within a build. They add scale and structure that complements smaller coloured blocks.

Yes. The grid blocks are made to fit with the rest of the Bauspiel building range, so they slot in as walls, windows and dividers alongside coloured blocks, castles and window pieces. Their large, flat faces make a stable backdrop, while smaller blocks and figures can be arranged in and around the open grids.

The open squares invite children to thread light, peer through, and post smaller pieces from one side to the other. Standing the grids upright makes walls, cages, greenhouses and windowed towers, while laying them flat creates a patterned floor. The lattice also frames scenes for figures, adding structure to small-world and construction play.

Each grid block is a substantial 17.5 x 17.5 x 2.5cm, giving real presence to a build without being heavy to lift. The matching 37 x 37 x 7cm base tray keeps all 12 together, protects the timber between sessions and makes tidy-up quick. The tray also gives a defined footprint for setting up a layout.

Standing, spanning and balancing the large grids builds spatial reasoning, planning and both gross and fine motor control. Looking through the open squares encourages ideas about pattern, symmetry and framing, while combining grids with other blocks invites problem solving. The neutral wood keeps the focus on shape and structure.

The grids are recommended for children over 3 years. Their large size makes them easy to handle and hard to lose, and the open build style suits a broad span of ages, from simple standing walls to detailed windowed structures. The natural finish makes them a lasting base for a Bauspiel collection.
