GAM Constructive Triangles

The constructive triangles give a child practical experience in plane geometry. By joining triangles of different size, shape and color, the child learns that many familiar figures can be built from triangles alone.

The set has five boxes: two rectangular, one triangular, one small hexagonal and one large hexagonal. Each holds triangles that differ in size, shape and color, so every box explores a new way to combine them.

A child joins the triangles edge to edge to form larger triangles, rectangles and the two hexagons the boxes are shaped around. This shows how bigger figures are built from simple triangular units.

The two rectangular boxes, the triangular box and the two hexagonal boxes each hold a different mix of triangles. Working through them, a child meets new combinations and gradually sees the rules behind building each figure.

They suit the sensorial and geometry work of a Montessori classroom, typically preschool through early primary. A child who enjoys puzzles and building will take to the hands-on approach to plane geometry.

Keep each set of triangles in its own box so the mix stays complete. Wipe the wood with a dry cloth, store away from damp and direct sun, and check pieces back into the right box after use.
