    • Frequently Asked Questions

Are dolls and soft toys still good for 5 and 6 year olds?

Yes — school-age children play with dolls and soft toys in more detailed, story-rich ways, giving them characters, families and adventures. Collectible characters and accessories appeal now, and a favourite soft toy still offers comfort, so these remain well-loved toys at five and six.

What does doll and soft-toy play teach at this age?

Detailed pretend play with dolls builds language, narrative and social understanding as children invent complex stories and act out friendships and feelings. It nurtures empathy and lets five and six year olds process real experiences, all through imaginative, self-directed play.

Why do school-age kids like collectible characters?

Collecting and playing with a set of characters appeals to five and six year olds' love of themes, roles and storytelling. Collectible dolls and soft toys invite ongoing, evolving play and social swapping with friends, extending imaginative play as children build their cast over time.

How do you choose dolls and soft toys for this age?

Let your child's interests lead — they'll bond with characters that suit their play. Look for well-made toys with accessories or clothing to extend storytelling, and durable fabrics that last. At five and six, the depth of play a toy invites matters more than its style.

Do 5-6 year olds still need a comfort toy?

Many do, and that's completely normal. A special soft toy can help a five or six year old settle at night, cope with new situations like starting school, and feel secure. This attachment is healthy and can support children through the bigger changes of school age.
