GAM Table Of Pythagoras- Sensorial Decanomial

The Table of Pythagoras is a sensorial approach to the decanomial. A child arranges colour-coded squares and rectangles by size and colour until they complete one large square, seeing the pattern of the multiplication table laid out in colour.

The material consists of a wooden box with ten compartments that store sets of colour-coded plastic squares and rectangles. Each compartment keeps a colour together, so the child can find pieces easily and return them in order.

The child places the squares and rectangles in order by size and colour, fitting them together until the whole decanomial square is filled. The finished layout shows the products of one through ten as a single coloured pattern.

It suits children who are ready to move from counting toward pattern and early multiplication. The sensorial layout lets them experience the structure of the tables visually before working with abstract numbers on paper.
