HolzWald Crocodile

At 20cm nose to tail this is the longest figure in the batch, carved low and stretched out the way a crocodile lies along a riverbank. The long snout and tapering tail give it an unmistakable reptile profile. Its length makes it dramatic in play and a real conversation piece on a shelf.

It is 20cm long, 5.1cm tall and 2.5cm wide. The low, flat body lies close to the surface, so it is extremely stable and will not tip. That long, ground-hugging shape is exactly what makes it feel like a crocodile basking rather than a standing animal.

It is cut from a single block of local wood, so there are no glued joints or small parts along its length to snap off. The edges, including the snout and tail tip, are rounded through several sanding stages and sealed with oil. Solid construction lets it survive plenty of floor-level adventures.

It suits a river, swamp or watering-hole scene, so it pairs naturally with hippos, storks and other water animals. Children lay it along a blue cloth 'river' where it lurks and surprises visitors. Its length makes it a bridge, a log or a lurking predator in imaginative stories.

The workshop colours it with natural Biofa dyes that soak into the bare wood, then finishes it with a quality oil. Because the dye penetrates rather than sitting on the surface, it wears gently over years of handling instead of chipping. The grain still shows through the green tones.

Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth and let it dry. Keep it away from water and dishwashers, and store it out of long direct sunlight so the colour stays even. Lay it flat when stored so the slim snout and tail are not knocked or leaned on.

It is handcrafted in a small Georgian workshop that has been carving wooden animals since 1997. Every crocodile is shaped and finished by hand from local wood, so grain and tone vary between pieces. The workshop includes people from its community, among them workers with disabilities.
