Beck Traffic Freeway Sign

The freeway sign marks the fast, open road where cars travel between towns. In small world play it tells children which stretch is the highway, so they can send vehicles on longer journeys before turning off into slower streets and parking areas.

As one of the Beck wooden toy traffic signs, the freeway sign sets the scene for a main road. Placing it at the edge of a town shows where traffic speeds up, giving children a reason to move cars quickly along one route and slowly along another.

It measures 100mm in height and is made from maple wood, the same height as the other flat Beck signs. The base keeps it standing beside a wooden road so it holds its place while cars drive past on the highway.

Run the freeway into a junction marked by the give way sign so cars slow as they leave the fast road. Set the give way sign at the turn, then add a parking sign further on to give drivers somewhere to stop once the journey ends.

A freeway sign separates the busy main road from quiet streets. It helps children picture a whole town with different speeds and routes, turning a plain floor into a map where cars have somewhere to come from and somewhere to head towards.

Wipe it with a dry or lightly damp cloth and dry it straight after. Keep it out of water and away from long periods in direct sun so the maple wood and the printed sign stay in good condition through repeated play.
