Educo Object Permanence Box 1

It is a wooden box with a ball that a baby drops into an opening. The ball disappears for a moment and then reappears, giving a clear, repeatable action that introduces the idea of objects coming and going.

By showing that the ball still exists after it leaves sight, an object permanence box builds the concept of object permanence. Repeating the drop and return also sharpens eye-hand coordination and the motor skills used to grasp and aim the ball.

Box 1 is the gentler starting point, where the ball returns soon after it disappears. In our Object Permanence Box 2 (/products/educo-peekaboo-box-2) the ball stays hidden until a drawer is opened, which is a harder step to take once Box 1 feels easy.

The main focus is cause and effect and object permanence, supported by eye-hand coordination and fine motor control. Each turn is one simple movement, so a baby can concentrate on a single idea without extra distractions.

Montessori play favours one clear action with a built in result, and this box does exactly that. The child controls the whole sequence alone, from dropping the ball to watching it return, which supports focus and independent exploration.

Wipe the box and ball with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry them afterwards. Avoid soaking the toy, and keep the ball with the box between sessions so the set stays together and ready for the next round of play.
