Educo Track the ball

You place a ball at the top of the tracker and it rolls down the run. The child follows the ball with their eyes from top to bottom, then can pick it up and start again. It is a simple, repeatable action that keeps the baby watching and reaching.

Watching the ball move smoothly from top to bottom trains visual tracking, the ability of the eyes to follow a moving object in a controlled way. This is an important groundwork skill, since the same steady eye movement is later used when a child learns to read along a line of text.

Montessori toys often give one clear result for one clear action, and Track the ball does exactly that: put the ball in and it rolls down every time. Repeating this helps the baby understand that their own action makes the ball move, which is an early and important grasp of cause and effect.

At the end of the run the ball briefly disappears before coming out. That short moment where it is out of sight helps the baby learn that an object still exists even when they cannot see it, an idea called object permanence that is a big step in early thinking.

It suits babies and young toddlers who can sit and watch a moving object and are starting to reach for and grasp a ball. Sit alongside your child, drop the ball in and let them see the movement, then hand them the ball so they can try to load it themselves.

It is a wooden toy. Wipe the surface and the ball with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let them dry. Keep the ball with the tracker in a basket or on a low shelf so the pieces stay together and the child can bring it out during play.
