Bauspiel Windows with tray (25 Piece Set)

The set has 25 blocks, each a wooden frame holding a transparent coloured gem, across five different colours. Every block measures 5 by 5 by 2.5cm, and the set arrives on a display tray of 28.5 by 28.5cm that doubles as storage. The maker recommends it for age 3 and up.

Each block is a wooden frame with a transparent coloured gem set inside it, so it combines solid timber edges with a see-through, jewel-like centre. It is not a plain glass block and not a solid wooden one. That mix is what lets the blocks build like normal blocks yet still glow with colour.

Standard wooden rainbow building blocks are solid and opaque, while each of these Windows blocks holds a transparent gem, so light and colour pass through the middle. Built into a tower or held up to a window, they add a coloured, glowing layer that solid blocks cannot, which makes them a colourful partner to a plain timber set.

Holding a block up to the eye multiplies the view with a kaleidoscope effect, so the room repeats and shifts in colour, which children find very exciting. On a light panel or sunny sill the gems throw pools of colour onto the surface, turning quiet building into hands-on light and colour play.

Stacking the framed blocks builds the usual spatial and fine motor skills, while the coloured gems invite children to compare shades, mix light and notice how colours overlap. Looking through the blocks and asking why the view changes encourages early observation and curiosity about how light behaves.

Yes. The transparent gems make them a strong light-panel and light-table resource, since each block casts its colour onto the surface below and the colours deepen where blocks overlap. They also work beautifully on a sunny windowsill, where daylight streams through the gems and lights up the wooden frames.

The display tray keeps the 25 blocks together for storage or for setting up a play space, so the set stays complete. Wipe the wooden frames and the gem centres with a soft, slightly damp cloth, avoid soaking them and dry them before returning them to the tray to keep the colours clear and bright.
