Frequently Asked Questions

What is inside the Grapat advent calendar for 2026?

There are 24 reusable cardboard boxes holding more than 200 loose parts in total, including hand-painted wooden figures, fabric, thread, wool and other natural materials. Each box also contains an illustrated card, and an English play booklet comes with the calendar.

What is the theme this year?

The 2026 theme is Be Loud and Bold. Grapat describes it as a season that shouts, laughs and shakes things up, so the invitations lean towards movement, voice and following impulses, turning the table into a stage and the floor into a landscape for ideas.

Who illustrated the cards?

The 24 cards are original illustrations by Zuzanna Celej, one hidden in each box. They are new for 2026 and are meant to be collected, displayed, shared or kept, so by Christmas Eve children have a full set of artwork to go with their loose parts.

Does the calendar contain chocolate or plastic?

No. The calendar is both chocolate free and plastic free. It is made from beech wood and recycled cardboard along with fabric, wool and thread, and the boxes are sturdy enough to refill or reuse for other projects after December.

What age is it recommended for?

The recommended age is 3 years and up. It contains small parts and is not suitable for children under 3 because of the choking hazard, so younger siblings should be kept away from the pieces while boxes are being opened.

What does the play booklet cover?

The booklet offers invitations to play, to make things with your hands and to spend time together as a family. It gives each day a starting point, but the loose parts are open ended, so children are free to take the ideas wherever they like.

How should I care for the wooden pieces?

Keep the wooden parts away from heavy moisture and never submerge them in water. If they need cleaning, wipe them gently with a damp cloth and let them dry naturally before putting them away.
