Grapat Frame

The Grapat Frame is an open ended set of four wooden sticks that fit together to make a frame. Each stick has indented grooves so a child can wind and fix thread across the frame, then fill the space with whatever they like.

You get four sticks that join into a frame, each one grooved to hold thread, plus a ball of hemp thread to weave across it. From there the frame is left open for children to arrange and rearrange as they wish.

The frame stands about 495mm in height once the four sticks are assembled, giving children a generous space to work with. The parts come apart again for storage, so it can be built, taken down and rebuilt many times.

Grapat recommends the Frame for ages 3 years and over. At this age children enjoy collecting natural treasures and threading, and the open format invites them to plan, build and decorate their own display again and again.

Children populate it with whatever inspires them: leaves, sticks, feathers and other treasures gathered on a nature walk, or messages, gifts and small trinkets. The thread can hold pieces in place, so there are no set rules and the display keeps changing.
