    Are balance bikes good for 3 year olds?

    Yes — three is a great age to start. A balance bike teaches the hardest part of cycling first, balance and steering, so children scoot and glide before ever needing pedals. Most preschoolers who start on one move straight to a pedal bike later with no training wheels.

    What size balance bike suits a 3 or 4 year old?

    Fit matters more than age. Look for a seat your child can sit on with both feet flat on the ground, and a lightweight frame they can handle easily. An adjustable seat extends the bike's life as they grow. Check the seat-height range against your child's inside-leg measurement.

    Is a balance bike better than training wheels for a preschooler?

    For most children, yes. A balance bike builds true balance and steering first, so the move to a pedal bike is usually smooth and stabiliser-free. Training wheels keep a bike upright but delay learning balance, which then has to be picked up separately later on.

    How do you teach a 3 year old to ride a balance bike?

    Set the seat low, then let your child walk and scoot the bike at their own pace on a flat, safe surface. Gliding with feet up comes naturally with practice — there's no need to push it. Keep sessions short and fun, and pop a well-fitted helmet on from the first ride.

    How do you know a preschooler is ready for a balance bike?

    If your child can walk confidently and sit on the bike with feet flat, they're ready to start. Many are set from around two or three. There's no rush to glide — walking the bike around comes first, and gliding follows once they feel steady and confident.
