View full detailsYes — ride-ons and push-along toys are great for this age, building leg strength, balance and confidence as toddlers learn to move. Choose low, stable four-wheeled ride-ons or push-alongs at one, moving to a first balance bike as your child becomes steadier on their feet.
Many children start a balance bike from around eighteen months to two years, once they walk confidently. Look for a low seat they can sit on with both feet flat on the ground and a lightweight frame. There's no rush — walking the bike comes before gliding.
Fit matters more than age: your toddler should sit with both feet flat on the ground. For one to two year olds, look for the lowest seat heights and lightweight frames, and check the seat-height range against your child's inside-leg measurement before buying.
Pushing and scooting a ride-on builds leg strength, balance, coordination and spatial awareness, while steering develops control. The independence of moving themselves also boosts a toddler's confidence. Balance bikes in particular teach the balance that makes learning to pedal easy later.
Use ride-ons on flat, safe surfaces away from steps and roads, and supervise closely as toddlers are still unsteady. Choose low, stable designs, and pop a well-fitted helmet on for balance bikes from the very first ride. Keep sessions short and fun.
